BEXAR COUNTY ANTABUSE PROGRAM

Bexar County Antabuse Program, better known as BCAP, was established in May 2001.  The program was developed to facilitate the continuance of a county program that dispensed Antabuse/Flagyl for its alcohol related offenders and was terminated.  Under the direction of County Psychologists, Dr. David Abbot and Dr. John Sparks, Raymond Carvajal R. Ph. and Dr. Cesar Garcia took over the program and have since continued to assist the judicial system with chemical assisted treatments using Antabuse/Flagyl and Trexan for repeat offenders that are associated with Pretrial Services or Probation.

Raymond Carvajal is a registered pharmacist in the state of Texas and has a long standing relationship with the Bexar County Judicial system. Mr. Carvajal has partnered with the Bexar County Jail for 30 plus years operating the pharmacy for county inmates.  Mr. Carvajal and Dr. Garcia also partner with the Bexar County Court House to conduct mandatory drug testing that is ordered by the courts. Dr. Garcia has been a practicing psychiatrist for 30 plus years in private practice as well as a psychiatrist for Bexar County Jail.

BCAP’s operating hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays 5:30am – 12pm.  Appointments for screenings are completed daily after the referral from Pretrial services or Probation has been set up. The screening is conducted by an LVN where vitals, labs, medical history, and program policies and procedures are explained. Once the screening is completed the offender will be scheduled with the doctor for assessment and admission into the program.
